When 700 People Show Up for an AI Awards Night, the Hype Is Over

Seven hundred people showed up at the Dallas Regional Chamber to see who made the 2026 AI 75. Not a startup pitch night. Not a demo day. An awards event for the regional AI ecosystem, and the room was standing-room.

I've watched the DFW AI story evolve from talking points to institutional weight over the past two years. The shift is visible if you know what to look for. The AI 75 list isn't a who's-who of venture-backed founders or academic researchers. It's the CTIO of DFW Airport, an organization moving 90 million passengers a year, working through what AI transformation looks like at operational scale. It's EY's innovation lead advising Fort Worth and Dallas on governance. It's the full range of an economy that has collectively decided AI is infrastructure, not experiment.

That's the signal. Markets mature when the infrastructure class shows up. Not just the builders, but the operators, the policymakers, the institutions that have to absorb what the builders make and keep the whole thing running. We're there. The conversation in DFW has shifted from "should we do AI" to "who's doing it well and what can we learn from them."

That shift matters for how we sell, how we deliver, and who we build relationships with. Clients are no longer impressed that you know what AI is. They're benchmarking against their peers who are already deploying it. If you're not in relationship with the people on lists like this, you're not in the room where the next buying decision is getting shaped. And you're missing out on their perspective that could be key to what you do next.

Congrats to AI 75 class!
