DFW Is Now the AI Talent Market

At some point, "rising market" stops being a label and just becomes a description.

I've been watching the talent data on DFW pile up for years. This year, it got hard to argue with. CBRE's Scoring Tech Talent 2026 report ranked DFW eighth overall in North America and second in net new tech workers of any market tracked, with 37,230 net new tech workers between 2022 and 2025.

CompTIA put DFW fifth in the country for AI-specific hiring. These aren't data center announcements. These are people numbers, and people numbers mean something different about where the work is actually going.

The framing that has dominated DFW's AI story is infrastructure. Land is cheap. Power is (mostly) available. Regulators say yes. That story is real, and it explains much of the capital flowing into the region. But it's the wrong frame for what's happening on the talent side, and the talent side tells you where a market is going, not where it is (think Gretzky's "skating to where the puck will be" saying).

Pudu Robotics moved its U.S. headquarters from Silicon Valley to Richardson. Samsung is in Plano (AT&T is about to be too!). The engineers, product managers, and delivery professionals who would have relocated to California five years ago are building careers here instead. That's not an infrastructure advantage. That's gravity. And gravity compounds in ways that data center announcements don't.

I wrote a few weeks back about DFW building a different kind of AI economy, one grounded in delivery and talent rather than compute. CBRE and CompTIA data confirm this has moved past potential and is on the ground right now - that's momentum of a different kind. The question for companies operating here has changed. A few years ago you were asking whether DFW was the right place to build AI capacity. That question is settled.
