Rest & Recharge

life Jul 5, 2023
"No one I’ve met has felt fulfilled sitting on a beach."

In a society that often glorifies busyness and the "hustle" culture, it is crucial to recognize the value of rest and rejuvenation. It's also important that we don't get caught in the trap of believing that we would be better off not working at all. I've had multiple friends who "made it" only to retire and find themselves lacking direction and purpose within a short amount of time.

Listen I'm all for beach time; we typically take these types of trips as a couple and with friends and family because it's important. You need to rest from work and sometimes it can be hard. The fallacy of constant productivity is deeply ingrained in our collective mindset. We are often led to believe that the more we work and stay busy, the more successful and fulfilled we will be. Numerous studies have shown the importance of short breaks but also longer times to disconnect from your activity, focus on relationships, and allow yourself to unwind. The threat of burnout is very real and cannot be ignored.

I think it's also important to think about what you're recharging FOR. Are you doing what you should be doing to achieve your goals? Spending time making sure you are on the right track is a critical part of the unhooking & unwinding otherwise, you'll just dump back into the grind without taking the time to lift your head and check your course. I typically exercise this by reviewing my goals the day before a vacation and then doing a short check-in on the last day of it. The (re)alignment helps me to fully dive into the time away and energizes me for my return. Taking time to rest and recharge is not a luxury; it is a necessity for long-term success and fulfillment.

So where are you going to rest & recharge?
